"Let There Be Rock Tom!!!"

Family Jewels (DVD)

By AC/DC

The Music

I’ll say right out that “Family Jewels” is a must own DVD spanning the illustrious history of AC/DC.  It’s a must own for any AC/DC fan out there.  At first I was leery about purchasing this DVD because I thought all the songs listed on the back would be shortened clips of the songs.  It turns out that all of the clips go on for the duration of the actual song.  The obvious cutting and pasting of studio audio into the live performance videos does ruin the experience sometimes, but this was about the only gripe I had with the DVD.  You definitely get your money’s worth with the 15 dollar asking price and the huge variety of songs from the early days with Bon Scott to the latter days of Brian Johnson.  These tracks have a wholesome mix of live video and music videos making for one helluva satisfying experience.  Some great songs include: Back in Black, Hells Bells, Highway to Hell and my personal favorite, Touch Too Much.  I really can’t forget to mention Angus Young, the lifeblood of AC/DC.  His unbelievable ability to play a mean guitar while banging his head, running around and jumping onto speakers makes him one of the greatest guitarists ever to have graced the stage.  You get plenty of “Angus” clips throughout the DVD so you’ll see what I’m talking about.  You could say that Angus Young leads the way in AC/DC’s devotion to the mantra of “seeing” rock n’ roll and definitely puts the band over the top.

Presentation and Extras

The 2 disc DVD set comes packaged in a shiny, silver flip-out case with a bonus booklet tucked inside.  The booklet itself functions as a look into the history of AC/DC and also as a tribute to Bon Scott.  You’ll also find some great color photos of live performances as well as a full list of songs.  The signature theme of AC/DC becomes clear when you notice the “big metal balls” on the front cover of the package.  This alludes to my disappointment in the fact that they couldn’t include the song: “Big Balls” as an extra.  Even the audio by itself would be worth it being that the song is freaking hilarious.  I definitely recommend it for download.  I honestly hope you enjoy this DVD set and learn to love AC/DC as much as I have.  This DVD itself moved them up on my list about 2 places and introduced me to a slew of early AC/DC songs.  The only other thing I can think to say is: “LET THERE BE ROCK!!!”
